I don’t think hell exists but I think the theory has in fact helped humanity deal with its moral questions. This is to say that although we know what is good and what is bad in most cases, we may not be inclined to do good. Somehow having the fear of going to hell has made people to do the right thing.
But now that the myth of hell has been squashed, I would ask you to think about moral questions from a different perspective. Choose to do what will bring more happiness to more people in the world. (This btw is known as utilitarianism: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utilitarianism)
