Our emotions of psychological (in your mind) and physiological (the bodys phsyical response) to a situation.

So your mind, because of experiences that you have had in your life so far, will affect how it responds (emotionally)- so this could mean making you more/less rational to the situation, or making you loose you temper easier!

Physiologically, when we experience emotions there are many hormones that could be release, adrenaline if your scared, endorfins if your happy, these will make your mood last abit longer. There are also some changes that happen to your heart rate and breathing when we experience emotions!

As for where emotions come from, I would say they come from your brain-as a response to a stimulus!
