Well I sometimes work with some harmful chemicals, but as long as I’m careful not to rub them all over my skin or swallow them my work is pretty safe 😉
Pretty much the same as gemma, we wear gloves and lab coats in the lab so we don’t get anything nasty on our skin but mostly everything’s fine. We get trained on how to handle chemicals and use equipment, and there’s a lot of safety forms and things!
In general, yes. Similarly to Gemma and Judith, I sometimes have to use potentially harmful chemicals for my experiments, and some of the frogs I’ve worked with secrete skin irritants, but as long as I wear gloves and follow the standard safety procedures its fine.
I think amongst the Sulfur zone scientists I handle the most harmful chemicals. As a synthetic chemist, I don’t really have a choice but the use of all the chemicals have been very carefully laid down so as to not affect any chemist. If you follow the guidelines properly, things are pretty safe. 🙂
