      One of the criteria for passing a phd is that you have done original research, so its good to check in your subject area that noones doing identical work to you 😀 also its good to find out what developments are going on in your area, new discoveries/methods!

      Agree with Judith. Other than that reading about other’s work can be inspiring and motivating.
