Apparently, as an island we are too near to all the seas/oceans. Basically the water evaporates from the sea, makes clouds and these blow over England, but because there is a sea in every direction it does rain quite frequently, but I did read once that being near the atlantic ocean means that the winters are less harsh than they would be because of a warm air current, so thats nice.

Or the stereotype answer: English people like to talk about the weather and complain…this way they can do both at the same time 😀

If it’s any consolation, I’ve lived in Wales and Scotland and it always rains in those places too. As Judith says, it’s because we’re an island surrounded by sea.

My top tip is to move to Edinburgh, it doesn’t rain half as much here as it does in the south west of England… but I’ve only been living here since October so maybe I’ve just been lucky!

How much ever I know about science, I keep asking the same question to myself. I hope this explanation may help you get over this sad fact. 🙂
